Desreta Jackson began Mahogany Mane with healthy hair in mind. She first began braiding hair at the age of 13, turning professional at 15. After leaving her day job at Activision, Desreta started her home based business and named it "Mahogany Mane." While working from her home, she marketed herself as not just your usual neighborhood startup company, but one offering professional one-on-one services. She immersed herself in the study of hair, eventually developing homemade hair products for her clients.
